Mani Ratnam grants Karthik's sentimental wish

Karthik’s first film was Alaigal Oivadhillai. This film went on to become a smash hit and Karthik turned out to be one of the hottest stars of Kollywood in the 80s and 90s. He is now eagerly waiting for his son Gautham to make his mark in the tinsel town.

Veteran director Mani Ratnam has taken Gautham under his wings and is making a film with him in the lead titled Kadal.

Sources say that Karthik had wanted his son’s debut film to have a title that means sea as his first film had such a title. When he put forth this request to Mani, the director also agreed and titled the film as Kadal, say sources.
