Reason for expectations: While Madhavan’s super hit Hindi blockbuster is being remade in Tamil – Nanban – Maddy himself is playing a straight Tamil movie. He joins hands with Lingusamy after the hugely successful Run after almost 8 years of its making. Interestingly, Vettai is an action movie similar to Run that emphasized Maddy’s versatility in acting. In Vettai, Madhavan plays the role of a cop, tough cop, might we add?
After Payya’s success, Lingusamy embarked on Vettai but the movie’s beginning was riddled with way too many hiccups. Silambarasan was roped in earlier for Vettai but since he moved on to Vaanam without Lingusamy’s knowledge, the director replaced him and brought Arya for the role. In the meanwhile, Vijay was also approached to play the role and he declined the offer. And after initial confusions, Madhavan came into the project in a lead-equivalent role. While Tamannaah and Anushka were rumored to play the female leads, it was Sameera and Amala Paul who got the offers.
Vettai is said to revolve around two brothers – played by Maddy and Arya – in thoothukudi. Madhavan plays a tough cop and the elder brother while Arya plays the role of Guru Murthy, the younger brother. Shooting started in March 2011 and almost after a year, the movie is releasing for Pongal 2012.
Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and there are five songs in the soundtrack of the movie. Cinematography is by Nirav Shah and editing is handled by Anthony Gonsalves. After Cloud Nine Movies stepped out of the project, Linguswamy's took it up for his own banner, Thirupathi Brothers.
Level of expectations: 65%
Genere: Action
Audiences: Vettai also has Ashutosh Rana, Nasser, Thambi Ramaiah and Raju Sundaram in pivotal roles. Other than Arya and Madhavan fans, the film will also be expected by followers of Lingusamy’s fast paced action entertainers.
